On March 1, 1943 Andy Riser was born to John Henry and Lenory Compton Riser. He attended Union Central High School in Caldwell Parish. He was a graduate of the 1961 Class. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He married Jacqueline (Jackie) McClain in 1964. They moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1966. They had three beautiful children: Andre Antu Shay Riser, Antonio J. Riser and Anissa L. Riser-Waters.
He returned back to Grayson, Louisiana, in 1972. He opened the first African American Mechanic Shop, He also was the number one Junkman. He loved to visit and eat at Francis Family Restaurant which is now The Barn. The Barn had a special place for him. He was a faithful member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He served as the treasurer and was over the cemetery until his death.
On April 18, 2023, God said his race was done. He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 5 sisters and son Andre Riser. He leaves to cherish his memory: son, Antonio Riser; daughter, Anissa Riser-Waters; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchilden; as well as lots of friends that truly loved him.
Visitation will be held on Friday May 5, 2023 at the Riser & Son Funeral Home located at 7131 U S Highway 165, Columbia from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Graveside services will follow immediately at Cedar Grove Cemetery, west of Columbia.
Donations are requested to Riser Funeral Home, PO BOX 57, Columbia, LA 71418 or by phone (318) 649-2311 for the burial expense.
