Angela Symula

Angela Margherita Symula passed away on June 27, 2025, with family by her side. Angela (Ange) was born in Cortland, NY on July 8, 1938, to parents Ernesto and Elvira (Gallucci) Testa. She was married to James (Jim) Symula for 60 years before his passing in 2018. She is survived by her daughters Laurine Symula Parmely (John) and Lisa Langton (Charlie) and grandchildren Zachary (Kristie), Will (Brittany), Joshua, Kaitlin, James, Meredith (Aaron), Mason and great grandchildren William, Meia, Peyton and Aleyna. She is also survived by her brother Ted, brother-in-law David and sisters-in-law Cheryl and Rose. She was predeceased by her loving son Jamie (Charlene); Sister Ersilia; brother Peter (Ginny); brother-in-Law Gary and sister-in-law Judy. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Ange graduated from Cortland High School in 1956. Shortly thereafter she met and married Jim in 1958. They eventually moved to Fredonia, New York where they both started their careers in teaching and raised their 3 children. After their youngest child, Jamie started school, Ange went back to school and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia. She was initiated into the Kappa Delta PI honor society in Education and was designated as a Presidents Scholar in recognition of her superior academic achievement from SUNY Fredonia. She was immediately hired as an English teacher for the Fredonia Middle and High Schools-where she taught until her retirement in 1996. While working full time and raising her family, Ange went back to SUNY Fredonia and obtained her Master of Science in Education in 1975.
Besides teaching, Ange found a calling in politics and leadership. She served on many boards, was the president of her teacher's association for many years and became passionate about politics. Ange ran and contributed to many local and state races including chairing Hillary Clintons' Western New York campaign for State Senate. Upon her retirement from teaching, she was honored as Chautauqua Counties Democrat of the Year.
When she wasn't "running" things, she spent time raising money to purchase Christmas gifts for children in her community; hosting Sunday football parties to watch the Buffalo Bills, rooting for the Yankees and listening to Elvis. What Ange loved most were her grandchildren and Christmas-her holiday traditions remain strong today and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
