Angelene S. Damron, age 89, of Lafayette, passed away March 28, 2026, at Mulberry Health. She was born on December 19, 1936, to Alvis and Ida (Ellswick) Stewart in Virgie, Kentucky. Angelene married her middle school sweetheart, Lowell Damron, on December 15, 1956, at Shelbiana, Kentucky, and he survives. Ever since seventh grade, the pair had been inseparable, where you saw one, the other was sure to be close behind.
Angelene graduated from Virgie High School in 1954 and began her working career with Citizens' National Bank in Pikeville, later continuing at General Finance in Marion. After becoming a mother, she devoted herself to her home and family. She found joy in life's simple pleasures-she was an avid reader of most any genre, a lover of movies and going to the movie theater, and had a special talent for quilting and sewing. Above all, she cherished time spent with her grandchild, who brought her immense happiness and love.
Along with her husband of 69 years, Angelene is survived by her daughter, Kim (James) Keefer; her grandchild, Thaddeus (Dyllan) Keefer, and several special nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Fonso Stewart, Paul Dean Stewart, and Leon Stewart, and several in-laws.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 11 am until the time of the service at 12 pm, with Pastor Kathy Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory in Marion, Indiana. Messages of condolence can be left at dayandgenda.com.
