Angelina "Nani; Nana; Big Nani" Scavello

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved and loving mother, Nani, Nana, and Big Nani. Angelina Algieri Scavello, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29th, on Palm Sunday, and on her beloved, deceased son Giuseppe's birthday. She was 90 years old.

Angelina was born to Giuseppe and Rosa Algiere in Acri, Cosenza.

She mastered many skills while in Italy, her favorite being hand embroidery. She also wove cloth on a loom and created many beautiful pieces.

In the summer of 1959, brave, alone, and pregnant, she set forth to America on the Queen Frederica ship, arriving at Ellis Island approximately seven days later. A U.S. citizen at birth, she was so proud to be here.

She settled in Westerly once her husband, Michael, arrived several months later. She worked at Guild Guitar and was also a seamstress, creating beautiful draperies, linens, and clothing.

She was quite the cook. Everything was homemade, and holidays were numero uno. Meals were made with such love for her family and friends. Her meatballs were the greatest, and as many would say, you could not eat just one. Nani's soup was a favorite among her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and it was always a top request upon arriving at her door.

Angelina will be dearly missed by her loving children: Rose Terranova (Dennis), Frank Scavello (Jordan), Linda Young (Doug), and Nancy Scavello. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael; her son, Giuseppe; and her sisters, Bianca Gencarelli and Annunziata Algiere. She also leaves 14 cherished grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends who love her dearly.

Her Catholic faith was deeply important to her. It was instilled in her at birth and remained with her throughout her life. She was a communicant of her beloved church, Immaculate Conception.

Thank you to all for your care, prayers, and support throughout the past months during her injuries and illnesses.

A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, Westerly. Interment will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
