Angelo Amalfitano Obituary

Published by McNerney's Mortuary - San Pedro on Sep. 22, 2015.
Angelo Amalfitano was born in Ischia, Italy on January 26, 1949. He was called home to the lord on September 20, 2015. Angelo arrived to San Pedro Easter Sunday on April 21, 1957. Son of Giovanni and Vincenza. Angelo lost his mother at the age of 3 1/2 and was raised by Anna Amalfitano. Angelo was brother to Augie, Frank, Teresa, Anthony, Giovanni, Vince, Joe, Roy and Maria Teresa. With a large loving family he was happy to help by going to work with his first of many jobs as a paperboy when he was at 15th St. Elementary School. At the age of 14 he started his second job at Ramona Bakery and continued through his years at Dana Jr. High, and moved on to graduate from San Pedro High School. By then he started his third job in his father's footsteps and took to the San Pedro Fishing Fleet with the "Victoria." However that did not last long for him, reason being the life of a fisherman didn't leave much time for his first love, surfing. When the waves were down Angelo moved on to job number 4 making butter at Vegetable Oil. That is where he met friends that led him to his 5th job, becoming a Teamster, throwing bananas at Banana Republic at Berth 208 in the Port of Long Beach in 1970. Along with being a full time teamster he was sponsored into Job number 6 finishing his career of 42 years as a longshoreman. Angelo was a loving husband to Michelle and father to Mario and Anthony. With as hard as he worked it never hindered quality time with his family. As time went on Angelo became an amazing grandfather (Nonno) to Kailey, Michelle Jayden, Luca John, and Wincenty Angelo. He would stop whatever he was doing to be with his grandkids. His love was unconditional towards them and love was reciprocated back. The last job of Angelo was one that was not for financial gain. His true calling was helping people and being amazingly generous. His heart simply would never let him say no to a single person. Now he has been called home to be with his beloved wife in heaven. He is survived by his sons Mario and Anthony, their wives Kelsey and Jen, grandchildren, Kailey, Michelle, Luca and Wincenty brothers Frank (Lina), Anthony (Olivia), Vince (Maryann), Joe (Joanne), Roy (Jeanine) and sister Maria Teresa (Paul) and countless nieces and nephews. He will be missed but never forgotten. Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, 3-7 p.m. followed by a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Church followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park. Dear Mario, Anthony and families,

What a beautifully written obituary! You captured your dad to the tee! I love the picture you selected too. This is how I will remember him, always with a smile on his face and loving life to the fullest.

Your dad was so very proud of you both. Just know that he will continue to watch over you from heaven. And he will live on through you. May your memories comfort you at this difficult time.

I love you both very much and your families too.
