Angelo Metas. Age 91 of Southgate.
Beloved husband of Vivian. Loving father of Thomas Metas, John (Anna) Metas, Stella (Greg) Ison, and the late Karen (Brett) Bowser. Dearest papouli of Stacy (Jeff) Hartzell, Elyssa Metas (Andre Willis), Krista Metas, Steven (Ellen) Ison, Angela (Caleb) Heller, Evan (Meghan) Bowser, Elayna Bowser. Great papouli of Caroline, Harrison, Savannah, Leo, Niko, and Evan. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and Greece. Preceded in death by his siblings: Carrie, Fay, Tony, and Helen.

Angelo passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Vivian (Paraskevi). Born in
Detroit, MI in 1934, Angelo was a man defined by his love for his wife Vivian (Paraskevi) of 73 years. Angelo graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit and agreed to travel to Greece with his mother for the summer. Angelo and Vivian met in early July of 1952 and by August 17th of the same summer, were married.
Angelo and Vivian returned to
Detroit, MI and moved to
Southgate, MI in 1957. Angelo learned a trade at Cass Tech and was printer for a regional newspaper. Over the years and various occupations, he and Vivian became owners of Angelo's Party Stop, a convenience store in
Southgate, MI from 1983 through 1997.
Angelo was a very dedicated member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church. He was involved in the transition from a former location in Lincoln Park, MI to the current church and Grecian Center, located in
Southgate, MI. Angelo was a Councilman, Treasurer, served as chairman for several annual Greek Festivals, and participated in multiple building committee assignments.
Not only was Angelo very involved in the development of the Southgate St George Church facilities, but he was also recognized by the Orthodox Youth Athletic Association (OYAA) with induction into its Hall of Fame in 1982. He organized softball and basketball teams for St George youths to participate in leagues accessible to the Orthodox Churches of the Greater Detroit Metropolitan Area and Windsor, Ontario.
Angelo retired from work in 1997. He remained active in life. He and Vivian enjoyed traveling, primarily to Arizona and to Greece. In 2022, they returned to the village on the coast of Mediterranean Sea where they met and celebrated their 70th Anniversary. Angelo will always be remembered as a loving husband, wonderful father, proud grandfather (Papouli), and proud great grandfather (Papouli).
