Aníbal Abad Palacios Rojas, beloved father, grandfather, scholar, storyteller, and lifelong student of history and philosophy, passed away peacefully in Annapolis, Maryland, on February 13, 2026, at the age of 95.
Born on July 9, 1930, in the district of Marcabal, province of Sánchez Carrión, La Libertad, Peru, Aníbal’s life was rooted in intellectual curiosity and a deep love for culture, history, science, and truth. He completed his primary education at the Centro Escolar de Marcabal and earned a scholarship to attend the Colegio Nacional San Juan de Trujillo. He later graduated as a Journalist and Professor of Philosophy and Social Sciences from the Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal in Lima, Peru.
His professional life reflected his passion for ideas and civic engagement. He briefly served as an assistant professor in Contemporary Philosophy and later worked for seven years at the political newspaper La Tribuna in Lima as a writer, reporter, and editorial contributor. He also served as a public relations professional at the Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal.
Throughout his life, he charmed those around him with his natural educator’s spirit and his great sense of humor. He compiled his reflections into more than 400 articles shared through Google and Facebook. He addressed political, historical, philosophical, and scientific themes with humility and intellectual rigor. Conversations with him were lessons in culture and memory — rich with analysis, perspective, and heart. He had a remarkable gift for storytelling, weaving together philosophy, art, science, and lived experience into thoughtful reflections that left lasting impressions on those who listened.
Aníbal shared a devoted marriage with his beloved late wife, Jesús Elena Palacios Morales-Bermúdez. Together they raised a blended family grounded in love and unity. He was a father to Carlos Milton Palacios Morales-Bermúdez, Rina Rocío Palacios Morales-Bermúdez, Angionina Giovanna Palacios Morales-Bermúdez, and Flavio Alexander Palacios Morales Bermúdez. He also lovingly embraced and raised Liliana Orue (deceased), Zenia Orue, Carlos Hugo Orue, Carlos Wilson Orue (deceased), and Carlos Aldo Orue (deceased), never distinguishing between children by blood but only by love.
He is survived by his children: Zenia Orue, Carlos Hugo Orue, Carlos Milton Palacios Morales-Bermúdez, Rina Rocío Palacios Morales-Bermúdez, Angionina Giovanna Palacios Morales-Bermúdez, and Flavio Alexander Palacios Morales Bermúdez. He is also survived by his grandchildren — Stephanie Palacios, Gianfranco Palacios, Valeria Valladares, Gabriella Valladares, and Diana Valladares — along with many other cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew him simply as “Abuelito” and experienced his guidance, stories, and unconditional love.
Aníbal was born to Flavio Alcides Palacios Armas and Juana Rojas Ramirez and was lovingly raised by Nestor Rojas and Santos Rojas. As his earthly journey concludes, his family finds comfort in imagining him reunited with his beloved wife, his children who preceded him in passing, and once again united with the parents who shaped his life.
He will be remembered for his sharp intellect, humility, reverence for art and culture, and his enduring belief that the human soul and the mind are deeply intertwined. His voice, his writings, and his love live on in the family he nurtured and the legacy of thought he leaves behind.
