Anita "Annie" Leal

Anita (Annie) Melchor Leal, age 89, passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2025. She was born April 10, 1936 in Waelder, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents Olivia Melchor, Florencio Melchor, and brother Florencio Melchor, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Ernest Leal, sisters Cruz Cortez (Diego) and Susie Falcon (Ruben), children Lisa Torres (Mike), Ernest Leal, Jr. (Debra), and Anna Agan (Rocky), as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known to her grandchildren as Mimi and Mimi Annie.
Annie was a graduate of Dominican High School and went on to work as a nurse's aide at St. Mary's Hospital until her children were born. She then became a stay-at-home mom and was actively involved in her children's school activities at St. Patrick Catholic School and O'Connell. She would keep her children busy with many extra-curricular activities. Once her children were grown, she then worked in the Social Work Department at St. Mary's. Annie was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and served as a chairperson of the sweets booth at the Annual Church Bazaar. Annie and her husband sponsored and played in the Galveston YMCA Volleyball League (Galveston Paint Co). She loved working in her yard, cooking, decorating, having her kids' friends and family over for pool days, and hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas for her family. Annie participated in a line dance group and loved to show off her dance moves at home and at Salsa's on Mariachi night. Annie and Ernest would frequent their favorite places to eat, with fellow church members on Sundays, including their favorites America's Kitchen and El Nopalito. She always had her hair done and was always accessorized. She was passionate, energetic, strong, sharp, and always super mom/Mimi.
While those left behind will miss her greatly, all will take comfort in knowing she is resting in peace with our Heavenly Father.
Visitation will be at Malloy & Son Funeral Home on Monday, December 1st starting at 4 PM, with a celebration of life starting at 5:30.
