Anita Rose Cooper Sills, a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on January 10, 2025, at the age of 90. She was the 7th of 9 children born to Norma Frances Rose and Thomas Watson Cooper on August 7, 1934. Anita was born and raised in Amarillo, TX and attended Amarillo High School. Her middle name, Rose, was given to her from her mother's maiden name, of which the family consisted of 10 girl siblings and were affectionately known as the "Rose Garden".
In 1949, Anita would be blessed to meet her future husband, Jimmie Sills, in dance class, and she thought he was very cute. They would go on to get married in Clovis, New Mexico, a year later. Jimmie would then be assigned to the Kodiak, Alaska, Naval base which meant relocating up North. This would be where Anita had her first child while also working at the local Kodiak Bakery. Anita eventually would move back to Clovis and worked in the custodial departments of the Clovis Hotel and two Clovis city hospitals, from which she would retire. At a relatively advanced age she would complete and receive her High School Graduate Equivalent Certificate, of which she and her whole family were very proud.
Anita and all of her daughters enjoyed listening to her favorite record albums – from classical to pop, and especially rock'n'roll. Among them were the Everly Brothers and Jerry Lee Lewis. She also felt very happy to be baptized at the Highland Baptist Church in Clovis. In her later years, Anita happily enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
