Anita Rose Cooper Sills, a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on January 10, 2025, at the age of 90. She was the 7th of 9 children born to Norma Frances Rose and Thomas Watson Cooper on August 7, 1934. Anita was born and raised in Amarillo, TX and attended Amarillo High School. Her middle name, Rose, was given to her from her mother's maiden name, of which the family consisted of 10 girl siblings and were affectionately known as the "Rose Garden".
In 1949, Anita would be blessed to meet her future husband, Jimmie Sills, in dance class, and she thought he was very cute. They would go on to get married in Clovis, New Mexico, a year later. Jimmie would then be assigned to the Kodiak, Alaska, Naval base which meant relocating up North. This would be where Anita had her first child while also working at the local Kodiak Bakery. Anita eventually would move back to Clovis and worked in the custodial departments of the Clovis Hotel and two Clovis city hospitals, from which she would retire. At a relatively advanced age she would complete and receive her High School Graduate Equivalent Certificate, of which she and her whole family were very proud.
Anita and all of her daughters enjoyed listening to her favorite record albums – from classical to pop, and especially rock'n'roll. Among them were the Everly Brothers and Jerry Lee Lewis. She also felt very happy to be baptized at the Highland Baptist Church in Clovis. In her later years, Anita happily enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Sills. Left to Cherish her memories are her sister, Joyce Cooper Higgins, three children, Gaye Lynn Sills Wyzykowski, Jimmy Dale Sills, and Charlotte Kay Sills Brett, grandchildren, Christine Louise Wyzykowski Mahoney and her husband Joseph Blaack Mahoney, Kathryn Lynn Wyzykowski Turner and her husband Eric James Turner, Timothy William Lee Wyzykowski, Michael Anthony James Wyzykowski, Andres Ramon Brett, and his wife Tristin Lee Segler, and Torrey Alan Michael Brett. Anita Also leaves behind great grandchildren, Alicia Rochelle Mahoney Stone, her husband, Jeremy Stone, Julie Elizabeth Mahoney, Michael Blaack Mahoney, Joshua Allen Mahoney, Alyson Lynn Turner, Prime Lee Brett, and Persephone Lee Brett, as well as a great-great grandson, Isaiah David Stone. There are also two nieces who will continue to enjoy her memories, Donna Higgins, and Rebecca Higgins, as well as two nephews, Tommy Higgins, and Mark Denson.
While we are deeply saddened by Anita's passing, we are happy to know that she is finally at peace.
