Anita Beryl Whitcomb (nee Buccat), of O Fallon, MO, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late James Whitcomb; cherished daughter of the late Victor and Beryl (Frank) Gray; devoted mother of Cynthia Stork, Deborah (John Tharp) Hagan-Tharp, Kathy (Shane) Chesher and Victoria Maestrey; loving grandmother of Jason Whitcomb, David (Cassandra) Hagan, James (Chelsey) Maestrey, Phorest Birch, Seth (Gabby) Birch, Ryen (Ashlee) Birch, Jacklyn (Daniel) Wright, and Christa (John) Tharp; treasured great-grandmother of Lily and Harrison Whitcomb, Charlotte and Eleanor Hagan, Ava, Allie, and Cole Wright, Jack Kelly, Lola and Henry Cvik, Alexander, Avalon and Lawson Birch; dear sister of Bunny Ruess, Victor Buccat, Mary Griffin, Frankie Dodson, Jim Gray, and Theresa Roberts; loving sister-in-law of Sue (Bob) Wayant and Rose Lang.
Preceded in death by her many loving sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Anita had a deep love for animals, especially horses, which she once proudly showed, as well as birds and dogs—truly, she loved them all. Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially during family outings that brought everyone together.
She was known as the world’s greatest pie crust maker, a talent she perfected with care and pride. Anita also found happiness in her garden, where she was most content pulling weeds and tending to her plants. A true perfectionist, she kept an impeccably organized home, with pantries and closets that reflected her attention to detail.
Though she was often fashionably late, she made up for it with her generous spirit. She loved going out to eat and took great pleasure in treating her family. She also treasured her all-girls shopping trips, creating memories filled with laughter and love.
Anita was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Memorials may be made in Anita's name to Assumption Catholic Church.
