Ann Richards Battey, 99, of Granby, beloved wife to the late John K. Battey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Ann was born in Springfield, MA on November 6, 1925, to the late Donald and Dorothy (Stanton) Richards.
Ann was raised in Westfield, graduating from Westfield High School and later moving to Longmeadow, MA. Ann continued her education and became involved in singing on Broadway and all things in show business. A few years into her career, she was introduced through a mutual friend to her later husband, John K. Battey. They were married and settled down in Springfield and began a family. Ann enjoyed staying at home and raising her two sons, their many canine companions and the many critters these two boys would bring home. The family later moved to West Hartford where both sons began their education.
With time Ann was able to join and stay active with several clubs and church. She sang in the church choir on Flagg Road, she was a member West Hartford Women's Club, West Hartford Art and Music Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Ann also enjoyed singing on the Broadway Stage, and was part of several musicals such as, South Pacific, Oklahoma, Anne Get Your Gun, Guys & Dolls, and Where's Charlie. Ann could also play the piano and was always happy to play at church while singing along.
Ann is survived by a son, William S. Battey of Suffield, CT, a nephew, Edward and niece, Elizabeth. She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Dorothy Richards; a son, John R. Battey; a sister, Donna Minkler and one nephew, Donald.
