Ann Coughenour Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boston Cremation - Malden Care Center on Jan. 8, 2026.
Ann died in Cambridge, Massachusetts on December 27, 2025. She was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on October 21, 1953 to the late Richard Chambers Coughenour and Mary George Coughenour. She grew up in Ardmore with her three sisters, Mary Gray, Carolyn and Ruby. In her childhood she was a member of St.Timothy's Episcopal Church. She attended R.J. Reynolds HIgh School where she enjoyed singing in the chorus. After graduation, she began a long career of caring for children. She moved to Concord, Massachusetts where she became a care-giver for her cousins, another family of four girls, who described Ann as being in the core of their family. She worked for many years as an early childhood teacher and received an associates degree from Wheelock College in Boston, Massachusetts. She attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord, where she taught Sunday school and performed in Trinity's hand bell choir. Ann treasured the memories of two pilgrimages she made to the Holy Land with church members. Ann returned to Winston-Salem and gave joyful and loving care to her parents. She enjoyed a close friendship with her friend Gwen Montgomery. Late in life, Ann returned to Massachusetts and made many friends at the VNA Senior Living at Lowell Street. Ann is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Taylor and Ruby Coughenour, two brothers-in-law, and her nieces, nephew and cousins. The family thanks the VNA community and care givers in Somerville, as well as the PACE program providers and the ICU team at the Cambridge Hospital. Her funeral will be at St. Timothy's Church, 2575 Parkway Drive, Winston-Salem on January 31 at 11 am. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Ann, please visit our floral store.
