Ann Downes Obituary
RAVENA - Ann M. Downes, 83, of Ravena, passed away on April 25, 2025, after a brief illness. Born in 1941, in Johnstown, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Florence (Lorence) and Lawrence Hladik. Ann was predeceased by her husband of almost 50 years, Edward Patrick "Pat" Downes.
Ann is survived by her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sisters, as well as many nieces and nephews.
After raising her children, Ann worked for a variety of local businesses and eventually retired from the Visiting Nurses in Albany. Ann was active with the Girl Scouts when her children were young, and was a 32-year member of Ravena Lions. In recent years, Ann has enjoyed many peaceful afternoons reading by the river, visiting with her many friends around the community, and spending time with her family, especially the children.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Ann can be made to the Senior Projects of Ravena, Inc., at 9 Bruno Blvd., Ravena, N.Y. 12143 or the Western North Carolina Down Syndrome Alliance at www.wncdsa.org.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of St. Patrick, in Ravena, on Friday, May 2, with a viewing at 10:00 a.m., and a Mass at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery, in Coeymans.

My first memory of Ann, the mother of my next door neighbor, was her offer to help me as I struggled to mount a stencil and then paint it on the side of my backyard shed. Her skepticism and robust humor at my nearly failed efforts were harbingers of her warmth and concern for others. She always asked how my granddaughter was doing; and she took pride in the accomplishments of her children and grands. I will miss her, most especially at the holidays, and her steadfast faith. Much love to Tricia, Kath, Dale Jr., Hope, Kevin and the family.

I'm so sorry that I missed seeing this until today, 5/7/25. I worked with Ann @ VNA for many years. I enjoyed unexpectedly bumping into her a few times in recent years (most recently at The Boathouse Grille) and reminiscing about some of the fun times we had as coworkers at VNA. Rest in peace dear Ann. Lura

Lion Ann was such a pleasure to see at our Bethlehem Lions Club annual Holiday Parties. We always enjoyed discussing The activities of the Ravena Club and how nice it was that Delmar and Ravena always shared common interests.
