Ann Marie Helwig

HELWIG, ANN MARIE, a devoted Catholic, passed away on November 5th, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born on February 5th, 1945, in Detroit, Ann Marie grew up in East Detroit with her sister, Mary Ellen. They both attended St. Anthony's High School in Detroit. After high school, Ann Marie pursued secretarial and clerical training at Detroit Business Institute.
She worked in various roles throughout her career, including administrative assistant, bookkeeper, and help desk administrator.
In 1969, Ann Marie married Ken. Together, they raised their children: Tricia, who passed away shortly after birth, Greg and Bryan. In 1991, the family moved to San Diego, California for Ken's work, spending 25 years there with frequent trips back to Michigan to be with family. Because of the strong Michigan ties, they all eventually moved back.
Ann Marie loved singing in church choirs, traveling, and sewing in her spare time. Most of all she liked being with family.
Ann Marie was predeceased by her parents, Milton and Mary West, and her infant daughter, Tricia. She is survived by her husband Ken; her children, Greg (Cecilia) and Bryan (Erika); and her grandchildren, Jake, Isabel, Lukas and Anika, and sister Mary Ellen (the late Dan) Iafrate.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Memory Care workers at Cedar Brook Senior Living in Rochester and the Care Team Hospice, who became like family to Ann Marie.
Visitation Friday 3-8pm with 7:00pm Scripture Service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. (SHELBY TOWNSHIP). Funeral Saturday Instate 9:30am at St. Kieran Church 53600 Mound Rd.
