Joan A. Helwig

Joan A. Helwig 87, of Fonda Rd., Milton passed away on July 15, 2025 at Milton Nursing and Rehab Center. Born in Mazeppa on June 4, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Foster A. and Beulah E. (Haas) Emery. She was married on November 3, 1957 to the late Stanley J. Helwig.
Joan was a member of St. Paul's UCC in West Milton, now St. Paul's @ the Farm and a life member of Amaranth 144, William A. Knecht Memorial Court. She graduated from Milton High School and worked for 66 years at various local businesses including Reed's Cleaners in Milton, Weis Markets in Milton and the Milton Elementary School. She retired in 2023. Joan was very fond of all of her friends and family. She enjoyed get togethers and outings with them. She was raised on a farm and always had a huge love for all animals. She made sure they never had an empty belly and had a soft bed to sleep. Joan enjoyed gardening and loved to have beautiful flowers around her home. She liked to decorate for every holiday. Joan liked to do crafts, embroidery, and she crocheted many snowflakes for Christmas ornaments.
She is survived by a daughter, Tericia Mullin and husband, Donald of Milton; a brother, Stewart Emery of Lewisburg; three grandchildren, Brandon Mullin, Derek Helwig, and Kylie Mullin and boyfriend, Jesse Straub; and four great grandchildren, Kylie, Alyhia, Lydia, and Charlotte.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; her parents, Foster and Beulah; two brothers, Ronald Emery, and Gene Emery, and a sister, Shirley Emery.
Graveside services will be held on at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday July 22 in Milton Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Timothy Hogan-Palazzo.
The family requests no flowers and ask that instead donations be made to either the Kind Animal Rescue in Milton or The Cherished Cat in Lewisburg
