Ann Rains, 79, of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.
A memorial service to honor Ann’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, August 8th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Johnny Thompson. The family will receive friends following the service.
Ann was born on September 8, 1945, in Kinston, NC, to the late Neil and Virginia Howell. Married to the love of her life, Sonny, she was the heart of her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who poured her love and kindness into her home and into the lives of her children and grandchildren.
Well known in our community, Ann owned and operated her own real estate business for over 40 years. She had a zest for life and enjoyed traveling, especially her visits to New York. She cherished any opportunity to go out on the boat, soaking in the sunshine. Ann enjoyed gardening and it showed in her beautiful flowers she cared for. She enjoyed painting and her dogs who held a special place in her heart.
Ann will be deeply missed by her friends and family who will miss her bright smile and gentle presence.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 63 years, Sonny Rains of the home; son, Buck Rains (Jennie) of Newport, NC; grandchildren, Eddie Braxton, Kristopher Braxton, Meredith Rains, and Summer Rains; and great-grandchildren, Talan Merrill, and Tate Ferguson.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Ann Rains; granddaughter, Raine Braxton; brother, Neil B. Howell Jr.; and her precious pups, Allie and Chase.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome.
