Ann Kathleen (Paulson) Tuthill
April 10, 1937 – December 31, 2025
Ann Tuthill, 88, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully at home on December 31, 2025. She was the wife of Robert E. Tuthill of West Hartford, who was her devoted caregiver throughout her long illness, and ensured that Ann could remain in their home. Ann was the loving mother of John Tuthill of
New Fairfield, CT and Jennifer (Edward) Landsiedel of
Framingham, MA. She was very loved by her grandchildren, Corinne and Lucie Tuthill and Jack (fiancée Julia), Kathleen, and Connor Landsiedel.
Ann was born in
Los Angeles, California in 1937 to Theodore Russell Paulson and Marion (McMann) (Paulson) Peak. She was raised on a ranch near Porterville, California by her mother and her stepfather, Oliver Peak, together with her brother, Ted Paulson, whom she adored. She also had a special bond with her beloved grandmother, Erin McMann, and her grandfather, Charles Peak. Ann attended local schools and graduated from Porterville Union High School in 1955. She graduated from Lesley College in Cambridge, MA in 1959. Ann was a Kindergarten teacher at Santiago School in Santa Ana, California before starting her family.
Bob and Ann moved to Connecticut, settling in West Hartford, when Bob's career moved him to the home office of the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company, where they made many life-long friends and enjoyed years of dinner parties and get togethers. Ann was involved with many volunteer and social activities as she raised her children, including at The Children's Museum, at Bugbee Elementary School for field trips and on the ski bus, at St James's Church and its annual Antique Show, and as a member of the West Hartford Garden Club. Growing up, in addition to frequent trips to Fern Park and the West Hartford Public Library, Jenny and John both have fond memories of special one-on-one day trips with their mom to NYC. Jenny and Ann liked to go in to see the Christmas displays and a Broadway show. John remembers being especially moved in his faith when Ann took him into St. Patrick's Cathedral to pray for his grandfather who was ill.
Besides her husband, Bob, of 62 years, children, and grandchildren, Ann leaves behind her sister, Hildi Paulson (David Frederick) of Michigan, sister-in-law Suzanne Paulson of California, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joan and John Stark of California, her many nieces and nephews, and her cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Ted Paulson, in 2024. Ann also leaves behind her very good friend, Judith Burgess, with whom she enjoyed many years of work and gardening adventures, and world travel together with their husbands.
Plans are being arranged for Ann to be interred in the Memorial Garden at St. James's Church in the spring, with a gathering there welcoming family and friends. Details will be determined and announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation in Ann's memory, please consider doing so to the West Hartford Garden Club (westhartfordgardenclub.org/donations) or to the
Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org/get-involved-now/donate).
The family wishes to express a very grateful thank you to the hospice nurses at Vitas Healthcare and all of the caregivers who took care of Ann in her home daily, especially Karly Donaldson, Troyann Brown, Rose Sinclair, and Ann-Marie Bryan. Our appreciation for them all is endless.
