Ann DeLane Yager (nee Hill) went home to be with the Lord on September 25, 2025, at the age of 90.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at First Baptist Church,
Cameron, Texas. The family will be available at 1:00 PM preceding the service for condolences.
DeLane Hill was born in Lockhart, Texas on October 7, 1934, the only child of Alice McCarty Hill and James Hill. Her father died when she was two. Her mother raised DeLane in Lockhart with the help of her grandparents. She was very close with her extended family. DeLane attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College (SWTSTC), now Texas State University, where she met H.M. Yager and fell in love. She graduated from SWTSTC in 1955 with a degree in Education. She and H.M. married on June 23, 1956. While H.M. farmed, she taught elementary school (primarily 2nd grade) in
Cameron, Tx for 34 years. Even years after her retirement, folks would come up to her and thank her for teaching them.
They lived on their farm in Maysfield, Texas for nearly 45 years. When a fire took the house in 2000, they moved into Cameron, where she lived until 2024. After H.M.'s death, she moved to an assisted living facility in Austin, Tx to be near family.
DeLane loved people and enjoyed visiting. She was always ready to play a game of Uno with her grand girls, play 42 (a game with dominos) or go swimming. For many years, she was a regular at the Cameron Yoe football games on Friday night; even when she couldn't attend, she loved to listen on the radio. She greatly enjoyed extended family gatherings and loved having folks either out at the farm or at their home in Cameron. She also loved to travel, with a visit to the Holy Lands being a highlight.
DeLane loved the Lord and served God throughout her life. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of
Cameron, Texas since 1956. For more than 60 years, she served as a Sunday School teacher in the children's department. She also led and actively served with the Youth, with AWANAs and too many Vacation Bible Schools to count. She coordinated Operation Christmas Child for many years and published the Watchman on the Wall Prayer Guide for approximately 10 years after she retired. She went on numerous mission trips, including to Mexico, Brazil, and Ukraine.
While we will miss her greatly in this life, we know we will see her again one day in heaven.
DeLane was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, H.M. Yager, her parents, a daughter-in-law, Aileen Yager and a granddaughter, Sarah Yager. She is survived by children, James Yager (and his wife, Cheryl) of Buda, Texas and David Yager (and his wife, Laura) of Austin, Texas as well as granddaughters, Joyce Yager (and her husband, Ben) of Christchurch, New Zealand, Amanda Yager of Austin, Texas, and Emily Yager of Houston, Texas as well as many extended family and friends.
Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to FBC Cameron.
