Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hartman-Jones Funeral Home - McComb on Nov. 10, 2023.
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Anna Ruth Harvey Brumfield, of
Tylertown, MS, on Saturday, November 4, 2023, just one week shy of her 90th birthday. She was surrounded by her family and friends at home.
Anna Ruth was born in McComb on November 11, 1933, to Dr. Altus Buren Harvey and Myrna Clark Harvey. She married Tommy Barr Brumfield in 1951, and they welcomed their daughter, Myrna, in 1952. She called Walker's Bridge home, where she was lovingly considered a "community coordinator." Throughout her life, she was always eager to get back home whenever she traveled.
Anna Ruth was an accomplished student and maintained integrity throughout her life. She majored in mathematics and earned a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University. With a scholarship from the National Science Foundation, she also earned a master's degree from Louisiana State University. Until retirement, she taught mathematics to a multitude of students at Magnolia/South Pike High School and Tylertown High School. She then taught part-time at Southwest Community College until truly retiring in 1997.
She loved the simple things in life: going to the river, finding rocks to paint, watching wildlife from her window, baking sourdough bread, participating in church functions, playing cards and the game Aggravation with friends, watching sports, and in recent years, watching the RVs going to and from Paradise Ranch.
Anna Ruth had a profound love for God, family, friends, country, and community. She wanted to make sure others knew the Lord by sharing the promises of Christ with those she met. She enjoyed getting to know people wherever she went, and her love of history and genealogy often helped her find a connection with most she encountered. Supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was a passion of hers. She invested much of her time participating in and organizing multiple fundraisers through the years. While she was still able, she attended all events for her daughter, granddaughters, and great- grandchildren. She supported them in all their endeavors and genuinely enjoyed participating in all their activities. She always knew what was going on in their lives, and she always made sure they knew how much they were loved.
Anna Ruth was preceded in death by her father, Dr. A.B. Harvey; mother, Myrna Harvey; stepmother, Inez Sylverstein Harvey; husband, Tommy Brumfield; and sister, Elizabeth Leslie.
She is survived by her daughter, Myrna; granddaughters, Anna (Landee), Lauren (John), and Allison (Johnny); great-grandchildren, Brett, JR, Lexi, and Isla; extended family, and an abundance of friends.
Visitation and memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18th at Silver Creek Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Jesse and Hannah Brumfield Cemetery.
