Anna Heinz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Willwerscheid Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Grand Avenue Chapel on Feb. 19, 2026.
Anna Pauline (Quade) Heinz, age 90, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, with her loving family at her side.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Roger.

Anna was born on March 31, 1935, in Jeffers, Minnesota, to Herman and Mary Quade. She graduated from Jeffers High School and went on to earn her degree from St. Mary's School of Nursing. She began her nursing career at St. Mary's Hospital, where she served faithfully for five years before marrying Roger on April 12, 1958.

After welcoming six children into their family, Anna later returned to St. Mary's as an operating room nurse, specializing in cardiac surgery. In 1979, while raising four children at home, she returned to school to earn her bachelor's degree in nursing at St Catherine's College. Nursing was not simply her profession-it was her calling. She cared deeply for her patients and colleagues, bringing compassion, skill, and steady dedication to her work.

Anna found her greatest joy in time spent with family and friends. She loved hosting neighbors, organizing bridge games, and creating a warm and welcoming home where everyone felt included. A thoughtful listener with a calm and steady presence, she offered wise counsel and quiet comfort to many who sought her guidance.

She especially treasured time at the family cabin, delighting in gathering loved ones for weekends filled with laughter and connection. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Whether playing bridge, Scrabble, rummy, or other card and board games, she cherished teaching them, competing alongside them, and sharing in their joy.

Anna will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Wilbert Fester, Raymond Quade, LaVonne Iverson, and Lola Bigbee.

She is survived by her six children: Anna Marie (Gary) O'Hara; John (Mary); Joseph (Shannon); James (Sylvie); Juliann; and Michael (Cindy); 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her sister, Elvera Cullen; and her sister-in-law, Cosette Fester.

She will be dearly missed and forever lovingly remembered. May she rest in peace.

Evening visitation on Tuesday, February 24th at Willwerscheid Funeral Home 1167 Grand Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55105 from 4-7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, February 25th at 10:00 am with visitation at 9:00 am at the Church of the Assumption 51 7th St W, St Paul, MN 55102. Internment at Resurrection Cemetery.

My deepest condolences. Both Anna and Roger were lovely neighbors on Ridgewood Lane. She had a wonderful smile and great laugh. I especially enjoyed seeing the buzz of activity on holidays when turkeys were cooked on the grill or grandchildren combed the yard, looking for Easter eggs. I know she leaves a great legacy of close family times and the comfort of happy memories.

To the Heinz family: I didn't know your mom, but she sounds like a very lovely person and I'm sure you will all miss her terribly. I would like to introduce myself. I was her husband, Roger's, first cousin. His dad, Emil, and my father, Jerome, were brothers. My prayers are with you all in your time of sorrow. I wanted to let you know that even though you don't always know some of your extended family, there are those of us who still feel somewhat of a connection when the last name is the same. May God bless you all. Your mom is with Him because all nurses go to Heaven. Jeanette Heinz Marquardt.
