Grant McLagan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Willwerscheid Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Grand Avenue Chapel on Feb. 13, 2026.
Grant Ronald McLagan 2/17/1953-1/2/2026

Grant passed away peacefully with his wife of 45 years, Jodie, by his side at The Sanctuary in West St. Paul. He was a person of the Christian faith, dearly loved children especially wanting to have any opportunity he had, to hold babies and is known for his genuine hugs. It wasn't a secret how he stood on the issues of life, he didn't shy away from the microphone and had a unique sense of humor spurred on by his wild imagination. "Grant stories" will be his legacy, as anyone who knew him continues to be entertained by either telling or listening to them. He quipped "If anyone tells the ice cream story at my funeral, I'm going to get up and walk out!". Grant was a 1972 graduate of South St. Paul High School. He worked custodial positions including several years at Breck School and Rosemount Engineering. He achieved a degree in accounting and supermarket management.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Ethel (nee Schletty) McLagan, Sr.; infant sister; brothers Clinton and Mark; sisters-in-law Cynthia McLagan, Diane McLagan, Sharon McLagan and Valerie McLagan; nephews Jack and Ian McLagan; mother-in-law Sharron Engle.

He is survived by his wife Jodie (nee Engle); brothers John (Dotty Arntzen), Lance, Carl (Clio), Scott and Rusty; sisters Linda (Dan) Randall and Holly (Roger) Madden; sisters-in-law Jane McLagan and Susan Roberts McLagan; father-in-law and wife Russell and Diann Engle; sisters-in-law Jeannine Gould, April (John) Gilbertson, Laurie Gramling; brother-in-law Brian Engle; several cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends including the Vo-Tech gang.

A special thank you to the staff at The Sanctuary for their kindness and attentive care they provided to Grant. If there was an award for the most time the call light was pressed, he would have won the trophy. Chef Jacques made sure Grant knew that barbecue chicken or ribs was on the menu, which he devoured. He was energized by singing the "song of the day" with Penny. He made meaningful friends with the residents and will surely be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel's Rock Church, The Chapel, 14201 Cedar Ave., Apple Valley, Minnesota. A memorial gathering for Grant will be at a family member location in the summer. "Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning." Psalm 30:5b
