Obituary published on Legacy.com by Klecatsky & Sons Funeral Homes-Southern Chapel - South Saint Paul on Dec. 19, 2025.
Clinton Reed McLagan (May 12, 1941- December 17, 2025). Clinton was born the first son of Wayne and Ethel McLagan of
West St. Paul, MN. He grew up among many siblings and cousins and had great relationships with his grandparents. He would go on to encourage his children to be close to their siblings and extended family. Clinton graduated from South St. Paul High School in 1959, where he played football, basketball, and competed for the track and field team. He was a standout in track, specifically the 440 yard dash, winning the conference and participating in the state championships. He decided to attend Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, but came home to attend the University of Minnesota two years later. He graduated with a degree in Land Surveying in 1967, after several meetings with his advisor where they considered all of his credits along with his experience working with his father at the family land surveying firm. He went on to graduate from William Mitchell College of Law to earn a Juris Doctorate in 1971. Clinton was successfully able to combine his interest in land surveying, which was encouraged by his father and grandfather, and his law school education by becoming a successful boundary and title litigation attorney. He was able to run a private practice, and he also worked as an adjunct professor for Inver Hills community college for over 20 years. He also wrote a book entitled Minnesota Real Estate in 1981, and held various businesses.
In 1963, Clinton married Diana Wong, and they were parents to Kirsten, Matthew, and Tim. The marriage ended, but they continued to be loving, thoughtful, and encouraging parents.
Clinton met Jane Madland, and they married in 1984. The following year, they celebrated the birth of their child Kaitlyn.
Clinton would often tell his children that he thoroughly enjoyed making Jane happy and putting a smile on her face with his unique brand of humorous storytelling and one-liners. Clinton's faith journey was very important to him. He taught his young children how to pray by praying with them at bedtime. Later in life, Clinton and Jane found a home with the congregation at Bethesda Lutheran Church. He was very thankful for Pastors Terry Nordheim and Maggie Novak.
Clinton is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Ethel, infant older sister, and brother Mark. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane, children Kirsten (Frank Neville), Matthew (Catherine), Timothy (Penny), and Kaitlyn (Nathan Speiser), grandchildren Hannah, Maya, Nicholas, Kimberly, Greta, Joseph, Claire, Julia, Ryan, Abigail, Olivia, and Zachary, 8 brothers and sisters, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Clinton also held a special place in his heart for Nourn Nou, Ann Eckstrom, Mary Sevick (niece), and Katie Lundgren.
