COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Anna Belle Hopson, age 89 passed away peacefully Saturday January 17th 2026.
She was born March 17, 1936, to Ben and Lucille Carter in Granville, Tennessee. She was the fifth of eight children, with two brothers and five sisters, and grew up in a close-knit family that shaped her lifelong devotion to family.
At the age of 20, Anna moved to Cookeville, Tennessee. In 1956, she married Tommy Steakley, and together they welcomed one daughter, Sherry.
Anna dedicated 34 years of service to GTE in Cookeville, where she worked as a respected and devoted supervisor. Her strong work ethic, leadership, and kindness left a lasting impression on coworkers and friends alike.
In 1985, Anna married L.D. Hopson, and the two shared 38 years of marriage until his passing.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Steakley Loftis, (husband Roger); grandson, Carter Loftis, (wife Lindsay); great granddaughter, Emery Loftis; one brother, Elvis Carter; sisters, Pat Stewart and Delores Smith and their families; stepson, John Hopson, (wife Sonia) and granddaughters, Sarah and Jenna Hopson.
Anna touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. She will be remembered for her kind and loving nature. Family was at the center of her life
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 23, 2026 at 1:00 pm in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
