Anne Carkner Obituary

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Anne Catherine Carkner, age 81 of Cookeville, passed away on Friday March 13, 2026, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Born on August 2, 1944, in Albany, New York, Anne’s life was marked by kindness, dedication, and a heartfelt love for both family and animals.

Anne pursued a meaningful career as a legal secretary at the esteemed Bond, Schoeneck and King Law Firm. Her professional life reflected the same unwavering commitment and attention to detail that she exhibited in all aspects of her life. After retirement, she found joy and purpose volunteering at the Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter, where her gentle spirit and compassion for animals shone brightly. Anne’s beloved cat, Remington, was a constant companion, embodying the deep bond she cherished with animals.

An avid reader and enthusiast of Mahjong, Anne’s intellectual curiosity and love of leisure activities enriched her days. She was also a proud member of the Cookeville Corvette Club and the Plateau Corvette Club, enjoying vibrant friendships and shared adventures with fellow members and her husband Jack. Her participation in the Cookeville Welcome Club further exemplified her warm and welcoming nature, as she treasured the time spent with close friends from these communities.

Anne is survived by her children Karen Schumacher (Leon), Lori Austin (Jeffery), Jacki York (Jared), and John Carkner (Tania), who remember her as a loving and steadfast presence in their lives. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren James Belluscio (Amanda), Dhasean Serrano (Maria), Christian Serrano (Ginger), Katherine York, and Sawyer York, as well as her great-grandchildren Bella Belluscio, James John Belluscio, Jace Belluscio, Javier Serrano, CJ Serrano, and Galaxie Ortiz. Each carried forward the values of kindness and commitment that Anne held dear.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" Carkner, to whom she was married for over 30 years, and her mother, Anna Davis. Their memories remain ever-present in the hearts of those who loved her.

A Celebration of Life honoring Anne will be on Saturday March 28 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.
