A lifelong resident of New Iberia, Anna Gachassin Labit was born on September 28, 1953, to the late Adleys and Nola Norris Gachassin. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Anna was a true matriarch, whose life revolved around the love and warmth of her family. Her heart was as generous as the love she held for her family.
Anna’s home was a treasure trove of memories, filled with carefully preserved keepsakes that she lovingly collected from her children and grandchildren. From baby teeth to locks of hair, each item symbolized a moment spent together, a reminder of the love they shared. Her knack for crafting and sewing expressed her artistic spirit. Each handmade creation held a story; a piece of her heart infused into every seam and stitch.
Mrs. Labit is survived by her loving husband of nearly 55 years, Renice Jude Labit; daughter, Dusty Labit Fitch (Hoyt); son, Jade Labit (Michelle); grandchildren, Tyson Labit (Shelbie), Chloe Labit, Hannah Fitch, Isabelle Fitch, Dustin “D.J.” Labit, Liam Labit, and Dalyla Jung; great-grandson, Luka Bienvenu; and siblings, Mary Alice Mann, Johnny Gachassin (Phyllis), Ella Mae Carter (Mike), Brenda Durocher (Lloyd), Susie Bonin, Adleys Gachassin, Jr. (Greta), Ricky Gachassin (Cheryl), and Jack Gachassin; and too many nieces and nephews to count.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sons, Jude Labit and Brady Labit; and siblings, Raywood Gachassin, Marie Charpentier, and Wade Gachassin.
As we remember Anna, we cherish the legacy she has left behind—a life rich in love, dedication, and creativity. The impact of her nurturing spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family. May she rest in peace.
