Anna Malkoon Obituary

Anna J. Malkoon
1929 - 2025
West Springfield
Surrounded by her loving family, Anna "Nunie" (Sadak) Malkoon, 95, passed away at home on December 5, 2025. Born in Springfield, MA, on December 12, 1929, Anna was the daughter of the late James and Jennie (Solomon) Sadak, of Dinneyeh, Lebanon. Anna lived a full and beautiful life. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Joseph G. Malkoon, who truly was the love of her life. She is the last surviving of eight siblings: Mary Nardozzi, Evaly Chasteen, Josephine Kennedy, Joseph Sadak, Elizabeth Aleveras, Susie Cotton, Fred Sadak, and Elmyra Harbey. She is survived by her four children, Joseph Malkoon and his wife Joan, Christine Spingler, Donna Glantz and her husband Paul, and Paul Malkoon and his wife April.
Anna grew up in Feeding Hills, MA, and attended Agawam High School. Her first job was working for National Print. After raising her four children, she worked as an Operator Supervisor at the Hampden County Court House, but her favorite job was being a mother, Sito, and "Big" Sito to all 13 grandchildren (Nicole, Jake, Danielle, Ashley, Briana, Justine, Pauly, Desiree, Victor, Dalton, Nicolette, Joeanna, and Joseph) and 13 great-grandchildren.
Anna was deeply devoted to her faith as a proud member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, as well as a member of the women's guild and a gold recipient of the Massabki Award in 2024. Her spirit was unmatched, defined by generosity, selflessness, and a strength of character that is hard to come by. She cherished her Lebanese heritage and shared it through the meals she cooked for everyone and anyone. Anna loved a good game of cards, playing slot machines at the casino, but above all else, spending time with family and friends.
Anna was a true matriarch, the heart and soul of her family. May her legacy serve as a reminder to care deeply for one another and to cherish every moment we have together. She will be truly missed.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at St. Anthony's Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield. Visiting hours will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by Mass beginning at 11:00. A procession will then continue to St. Michael's Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Joe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Anthony's Maronite Catholic Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The O'Brien Family Funeral Home in South Hadley has been entrusted with the arrangements.

My dear Aunt Nunie will be sadly missed. From her zest for life, to her sharp wit and humor, and of course, her wonderful Lebanese cooking. It was such a joy to have been able to spend time with her the past several years at the beach house that my family and I rented. My prayers and Condolences go out to the whole Malkoon family.

How does one say "Good bye" to a matriarch? She was my mom's sister and took on the role of "mom" to me after my mom passed. Our families were always together, living in the same apartment blocks in Springfield and on the same street next to eachother in West Springfield. Aunt Noonie (Anna) was one of the most cherished persons in my life. Her love of family is one that is only written in books. She loved being around and doing for family. Her table was never bare, she could whip up a meal in minutes and was offended if you didn't accept her offerings. Lebanese food was always on the menu and she was the best at it. Our times together were many, especially of late when we would "sneak off" to MGM casino for a couple of hours.
My heartfelt condolences to my cousins over the loss of this loving soul, their mom! May her legacy live on in you and passed on to your children and grandchildren. There are no words to express what she meant to all of you and to everyone she touched.

No matter how bad I might have expected any given day to be while passing through the State St. door at the courthouse many years ago, Anna´s great smile and warm, genuine greeting from her desk just inside was something I always looked forward to, much appreciated and greatly missed when she was no longer there. My deepest sympathy to her family.

Growing up Nuni´s husband Joe was the big brother of my childhood friend Rita Malkoon. We lived around the corner of the Malkoons. I remember going shopping with my mom to the A&P where Joe worked. I remember when he passed way too young . He and Nuni were such a loving couple. I hope they´re doing the Debki in heaven. Rest in peace Nuni

Dear Family,From as far back as I can remember as a little girl iI remember Nuni. She and Emmy were friends with my cousins Kay and Kathleen. In our wonderful St. Anthony´s Church our Lebanese family was so close. I remember them all dancing at church affairs and weddings and they were always dressed so beautifully. I remember them coming to spend the evening around the kitchen table at night with my mother, Kathryn Barkett Shrude. I remember going to their wedding and thinking how handsome Joe was. This is truly a passing. Praying for everyone´s comfort at this sad time. ( I am 82, so you have a perspective!)
