Anna Greene Tarrer Marshall, age 83, of
Conyers, Georgia passed away at Emory Saint Joseph's hospital on Friday, February 27, 2026, after a brief, unexpected illness. Anna was born in
Wray, Georgia on April 12, 1942, and grew up in Pridgen, Georgia. She attended Broxton High School and, following graduation, pursued her passion for helping others by studying nursing. After working briefly as a nurse, Anna embarked on a distinguished career in public service that would define the next three and a half decades of her life. Her 34-year career with the State of Georgia spanned a variety of administrative and executive roles at the Department of Administrative Services, the Georgia Mental Health Institute at Panthersville, and the State Health Planning Agency, from which she retired having left an indelible mark on each agency she served.
Anna relied on her personal relationship with Jesus Christ all her life and wove that faith into everything she did. She was an active and devoted member of every church she called home, including Pridgen Baptist Church, Mount Carmel Christian Church, and Crosspoint Christian Church, where she poured herself into service and Bible study. Her faith was not merely something she practiced on Sundays - it was the quiet foundation beneath every act of kindness, every meal she cooked for a neighbor, and every encouraging word she spoke.
In her personal life, Anna was a giving and caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to all who knew her. She was an instant friend to everyone she met and brought a party with her everywhere she went. She had a rare and wonderful gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and loved - whether they had known her for fifty years or fifty minutes. She organized and hosted many annual family reunions throughout her life, treasuring those gatherings as an expression of the deep love she held for her family. She also devoted herself to caretaking for her friends with the same warmth and attentiveness she gave her own family.
Anna had a wide array of hobbies and passions that reflected the fullness of her spirit. She loved traveling with her husband Lee and their beloved pets, cooking for the people she cared about, crocheting, reading, organizing, and tending to her garden. She played the piano and loved to sing. She was a lifelong, die-hard Elvis fan, but her love of music stretched far beyond Elvis - from 1950s rock and roll to country, soul, gospel, and contemporary Christian. Music, in all its forms, was one of the great joys of her life.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Lee C. Marshall; her parents, Frank and Ruby Greene; her brother Gene Greene; her brother Don Greene and his wife Linda; her sister-in-law Helen Greene; and her son-in-law Ronnie Bennett. Anna is survived by her brothers, Jack Greene, Sr., and Johnny Simeon (Chipper) Greene and his wife Sandy; her sister-in-law Sue Greene Wooten; her children Thomas Michael Tarrer, Jr. and his wife Dorothy, Frederick Scott Tarrer and his wife Barbara, Leslie Ann Marshall, Gary Lee Marshall and his wife Karen, and Ginger Marshall Bennett; grandchildren, Faye Elizabeth Beatenbaugh and her husband Michael, Thomas Michael Tarrer III, Frederick Scott Tarrer Jr., and David Andrew Tarrer, Lauren Marshall Oyster, James Justin Marshall, Morgan Bennett Kulig and her husband Corwin; great-grandchildren, Zoey Madison Cathcart, Samantha Leigh Beatenbaugh, Rylee Nichole Beatenbaugh, Thomas Ryder Beatenbaugh, Ezra Marshall Tarrer, Remi Oyster, Reese Oyster, Lola Oyster, Aiden James Lee Marshall, and Esther Reese Kulig; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
