Anna Merrell McElwaney, age 41, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at her home in Grantville, GA, with her family by her side. Anna was born on April 25, 1983, in Atlanta, GA, the only daughter of Robert D. Merrell and Ethlyn "Sam" Shoupe Merrell.
Anna is preceded in death by her father, Robert "Bob" Merrell. She is survived by her best friend and loving husband, Matthew R. McElwaney; mother, Ethlyn "Sam" Merrell; brother, Jonathan Daniel Merrell; and nephew, Knox Daniel Merrell. She is also survived by a long list of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family who will dearly miss her.
Anna was a certified EMT whose career was cut short due to her cancer diagnosis. She was brave and courageous throughout surgery, treatments, and illness, saying, "God's got this!" Family and friends were an important part of Anna's life. She could always be seen with a smile and laughter on her face.
The celebration of Anna's life is on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM at SonRise Baptist Church, 6 Shenandoah Blvd. E, in Newnan, with Pastor Skeeter Thompson and Dr. Tim Riordan officiating. Per her wishes, Anna was cremated, and a committal will not follow the service. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Anna's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, online at http://fundraising.stjude.org/goto/annamcelwaney
Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.mckoon.com.
