Anna Pierina Barigazzi Mordini, age 94, passed away peacefully in her home on November 22, 2025, after a long battle with dementia.
Born on October 2, 1931, in S. Annapelago, Italy, Anna was the fourth daughter of Michele and Dominica Barigazzi. She grew up surrounded by family, tradition, and the rich mountain culture of her hometown. From an early age she developed a passion for cooking, and throughout her life she was known for her extraordinary skill in the kitchen-especially her beloved handmade tortellini. Anna has had great skills in knitting and sewing.
In the spring of 1959, Anna met the love of her life, Raimondo Mordini. They married in the winter of 1964, beginning a partnership filled with devotion, hard work, and adventure. Soon after, they bravely packed their belongings and embarked on a new life together. Pregnant with their first child, Anna boarded a ship bound for Canada, arriving in September 1965. Their son, Pierluigi, was born in January 1966.
During the 1970s, the family settled in Highland Park, Illinois, where Anna embraced her new community. She worked as a house cleaner and proudly made tortellini for restaurants in Highwood, sharing her heritage and talent with countless families. Anna was a loving mother and a steadfast partner to Raimondo until his passing.
Anna is preceded in death by her husband, Raimondo; her parents, Michele and Dominica Barigazzi; her older sisters Adele and Vincenza; and her younger brother Gian Pietro. She is survived by her son Pierluigi (Shelley) Mordini of Baraboo, Wisconsin; her grandson Steven Mordini of Baraboo; and sister Maria Ori of Highland Park, IL.
A visitation will be held on December 1, 2025, from 9:00–10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 726 Deerfield Road, Highland Park, Illinois. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Anna's honor.
Anna will be remembered for her warmth, her strength, her remarkable cooking, and the deep love she gave to her family. Her legacy lives on in every story, every memory, and every shared meal inspired by her hands.
