Thomas Mordini

Tom was born on September 29, 1940 in Virginia, MN. To Italian immigrant Louis, and Helen Mordini. He Married Sharon Altobell in Eveleth, MN on September 15, 1962. "62 years with Tom was remarkable" Sharon remembers.
Tom had a wonderful childhood and spoke of these times frequently. If you knew him, you certainly were graced with countless stories. Tom served in the United States Navy and completed his boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Base, in Greatlakes Illinois. He was then stationed in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, where he worked in the kitchen and then as a Dispersing Officer at the Amphibious Base Coronado, California. He taught himself to type, and quickly got a position in payroll. He was then transferred to San Diego, California. After his service in the Navy was completed, he returned to Minnesota.
His first job was an attendant at his father's Sinclair gas station in Virginia, MN. He graduated to Fuller brush salesman after moving to Freeport, IL, then worked at Microswitch in Freeport, IL, for 33 years, as a supervisor in various departments.
Carnival Glass piqued his and Sharon's interest in the mid 80s. Tom retired at the age of 55 and they continued spending years traveling around the United States attending countless Auctions and Glass Conventions, buying, and selling Carnival glass and many other antiques. Tom was an expert on carnival and would later be dubbed "The Godfather of Carnival glass." Eventually due to their great knowledge and insights, they became well-renowned as the go-to source for all-things Carnival Glass. Tom served as Key-Note Speaker at many of the Conventions they attended. They wrote and published the annual "Carnival Glass Auction Price Guide" for over 15 years. Tom continued over the years to visit countless auctions and antique malls. His "Buddy" Loren, his son in-law, would accompany him quite often on those journeys.
Tom enjoyed spending time with family, friends, grandkids and collecting antiques, traveling and all things trivia, he loved to play Jeopardy with Sharon and Brittney. Sharon once told one of her daughters "Dad had the gift of curiosity." If you asked him anything, he would start with "Well..." and proceed to answer. He was a phenomenal storyteller and enjoyed traveling back to Alaska, many national parks and Italy with Sharon and Brittney.
Tom is survived by his wife Sharon, his three daughters, Lisa (Loren) Carey, Jean (Avery) Mordini Taylor and Brittney (Sammie) Mordini-Spearman. Sisters Sharon (Jerry) Lemieux, Susan (Joseph) Froehlingsdorf; Grandchildren Tyler, Kandy, and Lanny (Patty) Carey, Great grandchildren Brooklynn, Leila, Taylor, Marshall III, Lacie, Layton and, Brayden. One Great-Great Granddaughter Serenity, many Nephews, Nieces, and cousins.
He is proceeded in death by his father Louis Mordini and mother Helen Mordini and; Uncle Robert Carlson and Aunt Laura Carlson, and maternal and paternal grandparents. There will be no services at the request of the deceased.
