Anna Marie Spaulding
Newbury, NH - With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Anna Marie Spaulding, 78, in Newbury, NH. on January 27, 2025. She died peacefully after a long illness, surrounded by her family.
Anna was born January 19, 1947, in Lebanon, NH, to Hattie Downing and Ernest Coutermarsh, Sr., the third of eight children. She was raised in Lebanon.
Anna was the loving wife of her late husband Carlos R. Spaulding and devoted mother to her sons, Christopher, Tracy and Joseph Spaulding.
Anna lived with her husband in Stamford, Connecticut, Boston and Hull, Massachusetts, eventually returning to the Lebanon area where she became an in-home childcare provider.
For more than forty years, "Nana" cared for dozens of children, from newborns to adolescents, providing a safe, supportive, and caring environment for generations of Upper Valley children.
Anna was well known for her lightning-fast wit, wise counsel, and indomitable spirit. She was devoted to the children she cared for, fierce in the defense of her family and loyal to her friends, but above all, she was kind. She truly left the world a better place than she found it.
Anna Spaulding is survived by her sons: Christopher S. Spaulding of Lebanon, Tracy T.D. Spaulding of Newport, RI., and Joseph R. Spaulding of Newbury, NH. Sisters: Thersa Arusiewicz of Ladysmith, WI., Delores Wood of Geneva, NY., and Noreen Emerick of Lunenburg, VT. Brothers: Ernest Coutermarsh of Andover, MA., Joseph Coutermarsh of Pittsburg, CA., and Richard Coutermarsh of Houston, TX. Grandchildren: Joseph T.B. Spaulding of Newbury, NH., Nicholas R. Spaulding of Greenville, SC., Erik T. Spaulding of Windsor, VT., Arielle Folkman of Columbia, MD., and Jordan Noyes of Columbia MD. Anna was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Carlos R. Spaulding, who passed in April of 2025 and her sisters, Helen "Patty" Coutermarsh of Newport, RI., who passed in 2016, and Deanna "Dee" Coutermarsh of Lebanon, NH., who passed in 2023.
Memorial and Funeral Services will be held at Lake View Cemetery-Cemetery Road, Enfield, NH., on Friday, June 6, 2025, 11am. All are welcome.
