Anna Wolver Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bates Funeral Chapel - Oskaloosa on Dec. 7, 2023.
Oskaloosa. Anna Mae Winona (Cassidy) Wolver, 86, of Oskaloosa passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, while in hospice at her son's home in Birmingham, Iowa. She was born August 1, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John C. and Mary V. (Kelly) Cassidy. She attended Crafton High School in Crafton, Pennsylvania. On September 14, 1955, in Crafton, Pennsylvania, Anna Mae was united in marriage to a young soldier by the name of Roger A. Wolver from rural Iowa. To this union four sons were born, Marlon, Gary, Raymond, and Roger. The life of a military family was not for the faint at heart. Roger's career took the family all over the world including Manhattan, Kansas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Asmara, Ethiopia; Falls Church, Virginia; Fairfax, Virginia; and Fort Meade, Maryland. Anna Mae embraced her role as a soldier's wife and dedicated her time to caring for her family and supporting Roger from home. In addition to caring for her own home front, she always found time to give back to the communities they lived in by volunteering for various organizations and schools. Often times she worked part-time jobs for fun and to help with the monthly budget. In December of 1975, Sergeant Major Roger Wolver retired from the United States Army, in a ceremony that acknowledged his and Anna Mae's commitment to the United States of America. Upon retirement they settled in Oskaloosa, Iowa and loved time spent with friends and family. Anna Mae was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she served in various capacities. She enjoyed being Roger's chaperone on trips to the casino, playing computer games, reading, music, movies and certainly humor and laughter. She lost her husband, Roger, on November 8, 2020, but stayed in her home and active in the community and her church. She absolutely cherished her family and friends and was known to all for her kindness, cheerful disposition, humor and patience.
Her family includes her four sons and their wives, Marlon Eugene and Debra Wolver of Birmingham, Iowa; Lt. Col. (USAF Ret.) Gary Allen and Dr. Susan Wolver of Richmond, Virginia; Raymond Anthony and Pamela Wolver of Grinnell, Iowa; and Roger Allen "Jay" and Wendy Wolver, Jr. of New Sharon, Iowa; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Janice Witter of Pella, Iowa; the Cassidy and Pittinaro families of Crafton, Pennsylvania; and the Beaver and Wolvers families of Iowa.
In addition to her husband, Roger, Anna Mae was preceded in death by her parents, an older sister, Florence I. Pittinaro, and an older brother, John A. Cassidy, Sr.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 11, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Joseph Phung officiating. Burial will be on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Sunday, December 10, 2023, after 11:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel, and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 1-3 Sunday afternoon to greet friends and relatives.
