Anna (Ann) Mae Young a long-time resident of Independence, MO passed away July 9, 2025. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2025 at the Messiah Lutheran Church with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Ann requested donations to Messiah Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice
Ann was born May 6, 1935, in Kansas City, MO. She was the youngest of three daughters born to George F. and Anna E. (Schnase) Adams.
After graduating from high school Ann began working for National Screen Services in Kansas City where she booked advertising in local movie theaters. Ann continued her career in the local motion picture industry working at Columbia Pictures in Kansas City in the accounting department. Ann later worked in the auditing department of JC Penny at Blue Ridge Mall, retiring after 27 years of service.
Ann was a member of the Motion Picture Industry, a charter member of the Santa Fe Trails Women’s Republican Club, and the Delta Iota Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International Service Organization.
Ann was baptized in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as a youth. She has been a confirmed member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Independence since 2002.
Ann married Bob L. DePoortere in 1958. They divorced in 1987. Ann married Harry D. Young, Jr., in 2001. Ann did not have any biological children but felt blessed to have Harry’s two sons and their families in her life.
Ann is survived by her sons Scott (Rhonda) and Mark Young; three grandsons Christopher (Madison) and Joseph Young and Nicholas (Ashley) Finkel; two great grandsons Noah and Sawyer Young; four great granddaughters Emma Finkel, Grace and Chloe Caldwell, and Allison Miller; and granddaughter-in-law Kerri Hermann. Ann is also survived by one niece, two great nieces, and one great nephew.
Ann was preceded in 2013, by her husband Harry. She is also preceded by her parents, sisters Lucille Havlicek and Pauline (Polly), White, one niece and one nephew.
