Jerry Rice Obituary
November 25, 1946 - September 19, 2025
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry L. Rice, 78, on September 19th at the Johnson City Medical Center. His life was blessed with an incredible grandmother who raised him and wonderful aunts who helped take care of him after his grandmother was gone. Jerry was known for his wealth of information, his love of history, and being exceptionally generous, especially to his great-nieces and great-nephew. Jerry loved his church family and helping others in need.
He is survived by an aunt, Irene Rice, Erwin, TN, a brother, Steve Rice (Carol), Erwin, TN, and a sister, Carol Byrnes (Jeffery Murphy), of Jackson, MS, niece, Rachel Gillespie, Atlanta, GA, niece, Chrissy Werries, Cookeville, TN, and nieces in Mississippi, several cousins, who were more like brothers and sisters, and many friends whose lives were impacted by Jerry in the Knoxville area.
Jerry graduated from University High in 1964 and ETSU in 1968 Cum Laude. Jerry lived most of his life in Knoxville and Erwin. He worked as an Adult Probation Officer.
In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice Care, Elizabethton, TN.
There will be a memorial service for family and friends held Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Ninth Street Baptist Church, Erwin, TN. The service will be live-streamed, https:bit.ly/JerryRiceMemorial, for any who cannot attend.

Toney and I were sad to learn of Jerry's passing. We enjoyed worshipping with him. He was so proud of his family and telling about their accomplishments. We will be lifting up prayers for his family and friends.
