ANNE MARIE BAIRD (nee Link) age 104 of Chagrin Falls and formerly of Mayfield Heights passed away on October 16, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Robert; loving mother of the late William (Nancy) Baird and Elizabeth (Paul) Alonge; dearest grandmother of Regina Sawyer. Anne Link was born in Mayfield Heights in 1921 and lived there for 100 years, making her one of the longest living residents of the city. Growing up, Anne enjoyed roller skating and met her future husband at Skateland rink. During World War II, Anne enlisted in the U.S. Navy. As a WAVE she spent time in Oklahoma, New York, and worked in Washington DC as a secretary. In 1945, Anne married Bob Baird. They built a house on Berose Road where they raised their 2 children, Bill and Betsy. Anne was active in the PTA, and when her children were out of elementary school, she got a job at Mayfield Middle School. Her position as the librarian’s secretary combined her lifelong love of reading and learning. After retiring, Anne took care of her elderly parents as well as her husband and his parents, but still found time to travel (cruises to Alaska, Canada and the Panama Canal), tend her garden (she had a green thumb), roller skate (until she was 80), golf (she had a hole in one!), and read voraciously (mystery novels). Anne loved animals and was devoted to her dear cat, Smokey. Anne’s faith helped her face any challenges that came her way with strength and grace. She was an active member of the Mayfield Methodist Church. Friends and family are welcome to St. John Funeral Home, 16381 Chillicothe Rd, Chagrin Falls, OH 44023 on Wednesday, October 22 from 3 P.M. – 7 P.M. where a closing service will be held at 6:30 P.M. Burial will follow on Thursday, October 23 at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Rd, Chesterland, OH 44026 at 11 A.M (please meet at the cemetery). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Mayfield Methodist Church, 7747 Mayfield Rd, Chesterland, OH 44026 in memory of Anne.
