Anne Roy Bertoldi, 82, of Middlefield, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Chardon Woods of Journey. She was born October 17, 1943, in
Worcester, Massachusetts, to the late Frank Paul Roy and Helen Alvina (Beck) Roy.
Anne was always an honors student, and after graduating from Berkshire High School, she went on to earn her master's degree in applied music from Baldwin Wallace College. Music was a part of her whole life as she played piano while her father played the violin. She was invited to continue her musical training and to sing opera with the Cleveland Metropolitan Opera. This she was not able to do at the time as she was raising her children. She continued on with her musical talents by singing and playing the organ and piano with many churches throughout New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio. She also served as a music accompanist for school performances while living in New York State and Ohio.
It was while serving in the church music industry that she met and later married William "Bill" Bertoldi on April 27, 1991. They raised Great Danes together, and had many comical and magical experiences with these huge, loveable dogs as they interacted with their communities. Her greatest joy was to tell about how she worked with troubled youth while employed at the library in Red Hook, New York. She had a Great Dane partner weighing in at about 200 pounds to help her connect with these boys who so enjoyed the positive experiences. This time helped them to become more confident! She was honored for this service to the boys by the Red Hook library.
Anne was also an accomplished horsewoman. She raised and showed Arabians. Many were champions in the show ring such as LH Janet Lynn and LH La Belle who were awarded National Champions. At one national show, she was captured by a news photographer giving Janet a big smooch on her nose! She also enjoyed working with many Shire draft horses for the show circuit. To her Amish neighbors, she was called upon to help with their horses from time to time especially with foaling.
During her professional career, Anne worked as a medical secretary and transcriptionist for SUNY New Paltz, The State University of New York. She had a great mind for office management. She was an avid reader and a powerful writer, writing many short stories about animals over the years.
Anne leaves behind her beloved children: Joseph (Ashley), Amy, and Julie and her grandchildren: Amanda (Jeremy), John Jr. (Cassandra), Anthony, Noah, Adam, Conrad, Sabrina, and Khloe
In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her daughters, Rachel and Abigail; and her brother, Rob.
Per her wishes, there will be no formal services. She will be laid to rest with her husband and daughter and near her parents at Welton Cemetery in Burton, Ohio.
