Anne Bontempo Obituary

Anne Bontempo

July 26, 1938 - January 24, 2025

Mary Anne Burns Bontempo of High Point, NC, age 86, passed peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family and friends on January 24, 2025, at Pennybyrn Transition Rehab.

A Memorial Mass will be said on Thursday, January 30, at 11 a.m., at St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church on Elm Street in Greensboro, NC. Father Steve Hoyt presiding.

Anne was born on July 26, 1938, to the late John James and Catherine Davitt Burns. Anne lived in Verona, NJ, for most of her childhood and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. Following her graduation she was a bookkeeper at Warner-Chilcott where she met a good-looking Italian fellow, Emilio Bontempo. They married in October 1963 and spent 59 years together, until Leo's passing in 2022.

Anne and Leo moved to Greensboro, NC, in 1973 and never left. North Carolina is the place they considered their home. Anne supported her husband in his business endeavors whenever and wherever she could. Leo often commented that she made him better at his job. Anne was instrumental in helping Leo forge long-term relationships with customers and employees and their spouses.

The Bontempos were one of the founding families of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and were active in the church folk group leading music, playing the guitar and singing. Anne had a lovely singing voice. She and Leo later joined St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church and Anne was active in the Purple Hat Ministry and Mailing Distribution.

Anne spent time in several Ladies Niners groups at Belaire Golf Course and Starmount Country Club. She enjoyed needlework, crocheting and fine wines. Anne also enjoyed spending time with friends traveling to the Wine Country, Florida and the NC Mountains.

Along with her husband, Anne was preceded in death by her sister, Kay Vincent, and her brother, John Burns, Jr.

Anne is survived by her four children, Joan Aydelette, (Erick), Thomas Bontempo, (Sheila), Charles Bontempo, (Jackie) and David Bontempo; seven grandchildren, Evan Aydelette, (McKenzie), Max Aydelette, Maggie Rose Bontempo, Dalton Bontempo, Morgan Bontempo, Georgia Anne Bontempo and Dominick Bontempo; and one great-granddaughter, Peyton Lynn Aydelette. Anne is also survived by her sister, Mary Elizabeth Burns of NJ and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her long-time caregiver, Loraine Kpalou who stayed with Anne and her family through it all. Thanks also to her friends and the staff of Pennybyrn Independent Living and The Transition Rehab Center.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pennybyrn Resident Care Fund, 109 Penny Road, High Point, NC 27260 or Trellis Supportive Care, (attention: Finance), 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Forbis & Dick North Elm Street Funeral Home is serving the family.
