Anne Delwiche Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hansen Family Funeral and Cremation Services - Green Bay on Aug. 26, 2023.
Anne K. Delwiche, 81, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at home on Washington Island. Anne was born on April 15, 1942 in Evansville, Indiana, and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Her father, Herbert Bomalaski, was a well-known weatherman in Green Bay. Her mother, Mary Louise (Heuwinkel) Bomalaski, died when Anne was young and her stepmother, Kathryn (Slatky) Bomalaski, helped raise her.
Anne graduated in 1964 from U.W. Oshkosh with a B.A. in education. She was employed as a primary school teacher at Rothschild-Schofield School District, Pioneer Elementary School in Ashwaubenon and St. Philips Catholic Grade School in Green Bay.
On April 23, 1973, Anne married John Delwiche at Resurrection Catholic Church. After raising their family and caring for their parents in Green Bay, Anne and John retired to their beloved Washington Island. They were drawn by their interest in birding and stayed to build a beautiful home and a warm community through Stella Maris Parish, Trinity Quilters, Sievers School of Fiber Arts, and Washington Island Community Health Program. Anne was a wonderfully talented and deeply knowledgeable teacher, homemaker, and crafter, highly skilled in sewing, quilting, knitting, basket making, gardening, cooking, baking, and canning - to name a few exploits. Anne's love of fun led to many gatherings of family, quilters, and knitters at the Delwiche house, which always included home-cooked meals, cookies, board games, jigsaw puzzles, and plenty of time admiring the island wildlife.
Anne is survived by John, her loving husband of 50 years; her children Kathryn Delwiche (Vince Rechsteiner), San Pablo, California; Joseph Delwiche (Amy Hofer), Portland, Oregon; Stephen Delwiche (Anne Kroes), Northfield, Minnesota; her grandson Nicholas Norris; her brother John (Pat) Bomalaski; and her sisters-in-law Theresa Picard and Audrey Delwiche. She is further survived by a large extended family whose lineage Anne diligently explored through online communities.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Stella Maris Parish (Trinity Lutheran Church), 1763 Town Line Road, Washington Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 A.M. with Rev. Tom Farrell officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 31, 2023 with Ann Froelich at Allouez Catholic Cemetery. Donations may be made to Washington Island Community Health Program at WICHP, P.O. Box 277, Washington Island WI 54246.
