Anne Evans Obituary

Anne Davies Evans

Anne Davies Evans was born on November 23, 1936, and passed away

peacefully on February 15, 2026. She was the devoted wife of 63 years to William

("Bill") Evans, who predeceased her. She was the loving mother of Carol Evans and

Kathryn Evans Bernstein, mother-in-law of Kenneth Bernstein, and grandmother of

Daniel and Emily Bernstein. She and Bill were fun-loving aunt and uncle to their five

nieces and nephews. Her beloved brother Robert C. Davies predeceased her.

Anne grew up in Little Neck, NY, in a home full of music and laughter. Her

parents, Anne Collen Davis Davies and Robert Emerson Davies, led the youth choir at

the Community Church of Little Neck, and sang professionally in churches throughout

NYC. Anne and her brother kept busy exploring the woods near their home, playing ball,

practicing piano, and sailing in a small wooden sailboat on Little Neck Bay.

Anne graduated from Saint Lawrence University with a major in English and a

minor in math. A lifelong Anglophile, after graduation, she spent a summer in the

Midlands, England, with the Experiment for International Living.

Anne and Bill moved to their home in East Norwich in 1963 and truly loved the

small, close-knit community of Oyster Bay. Anne is remembered as an inspiring and

enthusiastic teacher who knew the names of all the young people in the community.

She taught remedial English and English as a Second Language at Oyster Bay High School

for many years. She then taught math at East Woods School. For her

daughters, Anne was their first and most cherished teacher.

Together with Bill, Anne transmitted her adventurous spirit and love of nature to

all who knew her. Whether it was exploring the woods in Connecticut, discovering the

first snowdrops in her backyard, or hiking the hills of Los Angeles searching for lupines,

she taught us all to be open to new undertakings. For years, she volunteered at the

library in Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay and was an active congregant at the

First Presbyterian Church of Oyster Bay.

Interment at Locust Valley Cemetery will be private.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in May at the First Presbyterian Church of Oyster Bay.

Donations in Anne's honor may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of

Oyster Bay, 60 East Main Street, Oyster Bay, NY, 11771, or to the Planting Fields

Arboretum Foundation, https://plantingfields.org/annual-fund/.
