Anne Gallagher Obituary

December 8, 1938 - March 22, 2023 Anne Marie (Toohey) Gallagher, wife of William J. (Bill) Gallagher for 65 years, left her earthly journey to be with her Savior God with the same grace and dignity with which she lived her life. Throughout her life, she gave selflessly to others. Her compassionate nature led her to a career in the medical field in the office of Dr. Karen Devassy. Early on she had aspirations to become a doctor and was accepted into a program, but fate intervened. While catching a train, she caught the eye and heart of a charming gentleman who bought her flowers every chance he had. Together they raised 4 children, Eileen (John) Sheppard, Kathleen (Gary) Martin, John (Anna) Gallagher, and William E. Gallagher. Anne's favorite joy in life was spending time with her 8 grandchildren: Ryan, Bridget, Shannon, Conor, Colin, Casey, Julia, Olivia, and her great-granddaughter Georgia. Her children and grandchildren were with her during her final days. Her husband was by her side, as always, and holding her hand. Their lives will carry on her legacy of compassion, brilliance, and selfless love. Anne was predeceased by her parents Edward and Anna Toohey and her 4 siblings. Anne was a communicant of Saint Patrick's Church where she organized many annual HomeFront Volunteer Projects. She also volunteered at the Enfield Senior Center assisting residents in selecting Medicare and worked with Literacy Volunteers. Her strong faith led her to quiet prayer in the church praying for others. Anne was bitten by the travel bug and enjoyed many trips to the West Coast as well as up and down the Eastern seaboard. Her visit to Ireland was a dream fulfilled. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a good Tom Clancy novel. Watching NFL football was a favorite pastime, especially when the game was played in the snow. Attending a game of the Fran Tarkenton-led Minnesota Vikings was a thrill. Anne also cheered and rooted for the UConn Lady Huskies. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She embraced the true meaning and ensured her children were believers. One of her last wishes was to make sure her family and friends continued to celebrate the holiday in her honor. Anne's was "A Wonderful Life." Seeing a house on our way home from the hospital with Christmas lights on in March was a sure sign that our angel got her heavenly wings. Anne's family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 28th at the Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road Enfield, CT. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Patrick's Church, 64 Pearl Street Enfield, CT. Burial will be at a later date.
