This morning May 12, we gather at Sacred Heart Cathedral at 10a.m to honor and remember a remarkable woman-my Aunt Anna. At 104 years old, she lived a long, full, and meaningful life, one that touched so many of us in lasting ways.
Aunt Anna was one of six siblings children born to Italian Immigrants, and together, that close-knit family created a legacy of love, hard work, and deep connection. The six siblings lived near one another, and their children-myself included-had the kind of childhood people dream about: surrounded by cousins, laughter, and the ever-present sense of family.
Aunt Anna was a truly a force-strong, fiercely intelligent, and never one to shy away from a good conversation. She was well-read, curious about the world, and deeply engaged in the lives of those around her. She wanted to know how you were doing-not just the surface-level stuff but the real details of your life. And if you were brave enough to discuss controversial world topics, you better be ready-because Aunt Anna had strong opinions and wasn't afraid to challenge yours!
She loved her children and adored her grandchildren. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she carried it with grace and quiet strength.
Today we say goodbye to Aunt Anna, but her spirit, wisdom, and love will stay with us-in our hearts, and our memories. Just like it does with all our family members that have already passed.
Rest in peace, Aunt Anna, You will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
