Anne Gutjahr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home - Whippany on Jan. 5, 2026.
Anne Marie Gutjahr (Sievers), age 87, of Whippany, NJ, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, December 21st, 2025.
Anne Marie was born on January 3rd, 1938 to Larry and Anna Sievers in Elizabeth, NJ. She attended Roselle Park High School, Scotch Plains High School, and Berkley Secretarial School. She started her career at Cooper Alloy before becoming a secretary for the Dean at Kean University, where she met her husband Jack. Nine months later, in February of 1960, they were married.
Anne Marie was sweet and caring and laughed easily and often, especially when in the company of her four sons, Gordon, Glenn, Gary, and Greg. She cooked homemade meals for them every night for dinner growing up, and made their favorite pies or cakes for each of their birthdays. She loved decorating their house with pictures of them, their extended family, and friends.
Anne Marie's face lit up when she saw her family, which was often, because she never missed a birthday, graduation, or special occasion. She was there for her children and grandchildren's school events, recitals, concerts, and sports games, and loved to spend time with her beloved sister Addie, brother-in-law, nieces, and nephews. In her final days, one of her greatest joys was holding and feeding her newest granddaughter.
When her sons were growing up Anne Marie brought them to learn how to horseback ride. She eventually bought her own horse, Sarge, who she owned for 20 years. Anne Marie brought her children and grandchildren to the barn throughout their lives– she had her grandchildren on Sarge before they could walk, and gave lessons to others.
Anne Marie had many hobbies that kept her active and enjoying life. She loved to hike at Jockey Hollow and Pyramid Mountain, where she took her friends, family, and of course, her dogs. She enjoyed training her dogs, doing tricks with them, bringing them to hospitals and nursing homes for pet therapy, and taking them to the dog beach where she and Jack enjoyed many winters in Jupiter, FL.
She was a talented roller skater, took exercise classes well into her 70's, and was part of a knitting group and a quilting group. She made beautiful scarves, sweaters, baby clothes for her family, and quilts for her grandchildren, which they still cherish today.
Anne Marie will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her four sons: Gordon (Kathy), Glenn (Laura), Gary (Elen), and Greg (Lina); sister Addie (Bob); grandchildren Alyssa (Alex), Kim (Sean), Jack, Sarah, and AnaSofia as well as her nephews Robert and Danny and nieces Susan, Tammy, and Debbie.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc at golden-dogs.org.
