Anne Locher Obituary
Loving Wife, Mother, and Friend
After a long battle with metastatic breast cancer, Anne Marie Locher (née Hicks) passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2025.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Gabriel B.; children Gabriel R. (31), Rachael (26), and Daniel (15); mother Vickki Hicks; sisters Cheryl Whiteman and Brenda Hicks; sister-in-law Christina Weisbard; her best friend Patti Skop; and many other friends and relatives (there is no way to include everyone so please excuse any omissions here).
Anne Marie Locher devoted her life to her family and family life. Her home was a gathering place where friends and family were always welcome-an open-door policy, where knocking wasn't necessary. She organized and hosted countless holiday and family gatherings, including annual Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations, as well as numerous parties, get-togethers, and game nights.
Anne was also dedicated to public service and "giving back." She was a strong supporter of Scouting (both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts) and served as a troop leader for her two eldest children, as well as in support roles for her youngest. While her two oldest children were in elementary school, she served on the PTA and worked as a "lunch lady." Anne was a passionate supporter of the concert and marching band programs, attending her children's performances at concerts, football games/half-time shows, and band competitions/exhibitions. She also supported her husband's many years of work with recreational youth soccer and basketball. If there was any way to attend, she never missed a child's sporting event, indoors or outdoors, no matter the weather.
Anne loved traveling, especially camping around the state in many of Michigan's State Parks. For many years, she organized annual week-long summer camping trips where her friends and her children's friends would rent adjacent spaces in a common camping area to enjoy the outdoors and each other's company.
In her early work life, Anne worked with her parents to set up a "make-your-own" ceramics shop. As with much of her life, a big part of that business was providing a space for people to gather, socialize, and work/play together. She spent many years managing retail stores and, for the last five years, worked in a job she loved the most-managing branches for Fifth Third Bank.
