Anne Verzwyvelt Obituary

Annie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, fiance, and friend. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 25 years, Gary Paul Verzwyvelt, her parents, Cora Juanita "Jane" Gallardo Fry, John Ronald "Jack" Fry and her brother, Thomas Richard Fry. She is survived by her three children, Kate Verzwyvelt Messer (David), John Paul Verzwyvelt, Eric Verzwyvelt and her adored granddaughter, Lily Anne Messer. She is also survived by her three siblings, Jack Fry, Chris Fry, Jane "Puddy" Robinson and their families. Annie was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on April 3, 1963. She graduated from Denham Springs High School and received her BA in Education from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1985. She went on to earn her Master's degree in Education while in Michigan. Above all else, her favorite role in this life was mothering Kate, John Paul and Eric. Annie and Gary created a loving home to instill in their children what they would need to become, and always be, loving, kind, and Christ-centered individuals. Annie touched countless students' lives in her teaching career in both Michigan and Louisiana. She was blessed to have a second chance at love after the death of Gary. Kevin Caswell, her fiancé, blessed her with nine years of deep enduring love while creating incredible memories. Annie loved spending time with her beautiful family and her wonderful friends. One of her greatest joys was the enduring friendships she fostered throughout her life. Annie was an active member of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Slidell, Louisiana. She allowed her faith to lead every aspect of her life, particularly her battle with leukemia. Annie was beloved by many and will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched and transformed with her loving presence. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 910 Cross Gates Boulevard, Slidell, Louisiana on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 1:00 PM with visitation from 11:30 AM until Mass time. Mrs. Verzwyvelt! This news is devastating to me, as you were one of the kindest people I have met in my life. Rather than just a teacher, you were a friend and a role model to most. There are only fine and loving words to describe your life on this earth. I consider myself lucky to have met you, and you and your family will always have a place in my heart. I send my kindest love to you and your family.

Mrs. V, where do I start? You were such a wonderful person all the way through. Your spirit and personality radiated in every room you were in. You made school better for me and I was blessed to be in your presence even after graduation. The many times I saw you these last 13 years at my work were all enjoyable moments. We talked, laughed and I even got to show you pictures of my beautiful daughter. Thank you for always making my day better when you came in and thank you for always being so kind and caring. I am going to miss you very much.

I am so sorry about Annie´s passing. She was one of the most giving and kind people I know. Her life was saddened by the loss of her husband Gary. She and her family were a blessing to anyone that knew them. The world doesn´t seem possible without Annie in it.

I have to share the words of my daughter Alexis Horton. May you find comfort knowing she meant so much: This hurt to read. Can´t even imagine where I would be in life if it were for this amazing woman. Her classroom was a safe haven in high school. She was such a godly woman. Praying for her family

Mrs. V always gave the best hugs! I will always remember entering the 900s hall at NHS and receiving a warm hug that would brighten the long days of high school. What a genuine, warm, and welcoming woman. Grateful to have known her and spent time within her refuge of a classroom.
