Annette McGowan Dotson, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 27, in Lumberton, North Carolina.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday June 1st at Wilson Baptist Church in Forest City, North Carolina with Pastor Curtis McDaniel officiating. A burial service will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
Annette was born on August 29, 1941, in Emanuel, Georgia. She was the oldest of 5 children. Her parents were Frances Logue and Hollis Wheeler. She met her late husband, Van Dotson, in Augusta, Georgia where he was stationed in the Army. Once his service in the army was complete, the couple moved to Rutherford County, North Carolina where they raised their three girls.
Annette was a faithful member of Wilson Baptist Church. She enjoyed helping with vacation Bible school, teaching preschool age Sunday school class, singing in the choir and driving shut-in members to church. Her favorite activities involved supporting her 3 daughters whether in Girl Scouts, sports or other interests. She was also "Nana" to 3 grandsons and loved them dearly. Annette loved being involved in the lives of her grandchildren as they grew up. She was also "great Nana" to many other little ones.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Logue; father, Hollis Wheeler and two brothers, Roy Wheeler; and Butch Wheeler.
She is survived by her children, Mary Logan (husband Derrick Logan) of Shelby, North Carolina; Windy Dotson Christy (husband Richard) of Pembroke, North Carolina; and Dina Dotson (fiancé Neil Biddix) of Marion, North Carolina. 3 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and two brothers, Alonzo Logue and Ethan Logue. She is also survived by her best friend, an eight-pound wire haired Terrier dog she named, Tiny, who now resides with Windy and her husband.
Annette's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her smile, warmth, faith, resilience and spirit will continue to inspire us. She would want you to know Jesus loves you. Annette's memory will be treasured forever as we hold her close in our hearts and remember the light she brought in this world.
