Annette Marks Hardy, a beloved teacher and cherished member of her community, departed this life on February 23, 2025, at the Belle Maison Nursing Home in Hammond, Louisiana. She was born on August 10, 1940, in the heart of Opelousas, Louisiana, where her journey began, a journey marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering passion for education.
With a steadfast dedication to education, Annette devoted 20 years of her life as a teacher with the St. Landry Parish School System. Her commitment to nurturing young minds was matched only by her profound love for her students, who often remarked on her ability to inspire and encourage them to reach their full potential. She believed in the power of education and imparted not only knowledge but also valuable life lessons that shaped futures.
Beyond her profession, Annette was a woman of many talents and interests. She found joy in painting, her creativity blossoming on canvas with each stroke of her brush. Her hands were never idle; she relished in sewing and crocheting, often crafting beautiful pieces that were gifted to friends and family, each stitch woven with love. A true card enthusiast, Annette enjoyed countless evenings filled with laughter, competition, and camaraderie around a table with friends.
Annette is survived by her sons, Gary Hardy and girlfriend Elaine Bernard, and Wendel Hardy; daughter, Stacy Hardy Allbritton; 5 grandchildren, Abby Tregle and husband Matthew, Tyler Allbritton and wife Lexi, Cori Allbritton, Hannah Soileau and husband Jay, Courtney Hardy and fiancé Levi Hitch; 4 great-grandchildren, Blythe Soileau, Wesley Hitch, Addisyn Hitch and Lana Hitch.
Annette is preceded in death by her husband, James Hardy, parents, Antoine Marks, Sr. and Loretta Lacosta Marks; sisters, Olgalee Benson and Gloria Guillory; brother, Antoine Marks, Jr.; and son-in-law, Tod Allbritton.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Visitation will resume on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Though her journey came to a close, the legacy of Annette Marks Hardy will endure through the lives she touched—her students, who carry forth the lessons learned, and her friends, who will remember her warmth and infectious laughter. As we gather to honor this remarkable woman, may we find solace in our shared memories and continue to celebrate the light she brought to our lives.
