Annie Nelson Obituary

Visit the RMT Funeral Home P.A. website to view the full obituary.

Annie Theresa Nelson, a cherished member of her community and beloved family matriarch, peacefully transitioned from this life on March 22, 2026, in Lexington Park, Maryland. Born on January 25, 1939, in Charles County, Maryland, Annie’s life was marked by devotion, joy, and a generous spirit that touched all who had the honor of knowing her.

Annie attended school through the Charles County public school system, where she laid the foundation for a life of service and kindness. Throughout her working career, she held two positions that underscored her commitment to helping others. She was a certified nursing assistant, offering compassionate care to those in need, and later worked in the cafeteria through the Department of Education, where her friendly demeanor brightened the day of many.

Known for her fun-loving, friendly nature, Annie possessed the rare ability to make friends and engage warmly with people wherever she went. A God-fearing woman filled with joy, she embraced life with a giving spirit and unwavering dependability. Her hobbies reflected her vibrant personality; she loved playing bingo, shopping, and attending lively parties. She also found great pleasure in spectating softball games and spending peaceful moments outdoors, appreciating the beauty of nature.

Annie is survived by her devoted husband, Bernard Nelson, who shared many years of companionship and love with her. Together, they raised a remarkable family including children Joseph "Zip," Shirley (Donald), John, Barbara, Betty, Mary, Francis, and bonus child Priscilla. Her siblings Elizabeth, Estelle, and Margaret remain close, as do her cherished grandchildren Marcus, John II, Shyanne, Jashayla, and Erica. Her legacy extends further through a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan Mae, her loving parents James and Mary Elizabeth Douglas, and siblings Martha, Alice, Sherman, Levi, Willie, Alex, and Joseph, whose memories she held dear throughout her life.

A visitation to honor Annie’s life will be held on March 31, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Gospel Tabernacle of Prayer, located at 24516 Budds Creek Rd, Clements, Maryland 20624. This will be followed immediately by a Celebration of Life service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the same location, offering friends and family an opportunity to pay their respects and share stories of her enduring impact.

Following the service, interment will take place at Queen Of Peace Cemetery, 38888 Doctor Johnson Road, Mechanicsville, Maryland at 12:30 p.m., where Annie will rest in eternal peace.

Annie Theresa Nelson’s life was a testament to love, faith, and joyful generosity. She leaves behind a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to have experienced her warmth and kindness. She will be profoundly missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
