DeVargas Funeral Home of TaosAnselmo “Chemo” Valerio 86, a resident of Ranchos de Taos, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on December 19, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reginio and Epifania Valerio; siblings, Gilbert, Lila (†Macedonio), Adelina (†Silverio), Teodora (†Nick), Eliu (Ida), Eduvigen (†Felix), Alejandro (†Dolores), Nora (†Santiago), Viola (†Edwardo) and Beatrice (†Frank); the mother of his children, Temia Archuleta.
Chemo served his country proudly in the United States Marines. When he returned from service he was deeply involved within his community, he was elected as Taos County Sheriff, serving three terms. He was also a member of the Taos County Sheriff’s Posse. Chemo was the owner of Valerio’s Construction, which was still in operation until his passing. Chemo was a dedicated Taos Tiger fan, supporting teams as often as he could. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his children Raymond (Lorrie) and Maxine (Mark); grandchildren, Marcus Jr., Angelica (Anthony), Matthew, Raymond Jr. and Ryne; great-grandchildren Brandon, Jason, Maye, Samuel Anselmo, Alyssa and Espyn; sisters Clara (Arturo) and Cleofes (†Robert); plus many other special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Rosary will be recited on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 9am followed by the funeral mass at 10am at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church.
