Anthony J. Basinski, Esquire
Anthony J. Basinski, "Tony," of Presto, Pa. and Upper St. Clair, Pa. passed away peacefully on Sept. 20, 2024. Tony is survived by his beloved wife Betsy (Fawcett) Basinski and their children Annie (Chad) Dubsky of Minneapolis and Bobby (Dena) Basinski of South Orange, N.J. Granddad to Emily and Jay Dubsky, Blaire, Nell and Rose Basinski.
Tony was born in Pittsburgh to the late Anthony and Emily (Klocko) Basinski. He grew up in Lawrenceville, Pa. and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. Tony studied English and History at the University of Pittsburgh where he excelled academically and was the first in his family to graduate college. He was drafted and honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon completion of his service, Tony entered the University of Pittsburgh School of Law where he received his J.D. Tony had a clerkship with Hon. Justice Thomas Pomeroy and accepted a position at Reed Smith in Pittsburgh, where he practiced litigation as partner for many years. He then served as a senior counselor at Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti.
He married Betsy, the love of his life, and wife of 44 years. They settled in the South Hills and created a home and family together. Tony was a longtime parishioner of St. John Capistran Catholic Church in Upper St. Clair. He provided pro bono services to the Emmaus Community of Pittsburgh.
Tony lived courageously with early onset Parkinson's Disease for many years. He didn't let his diagnosis stop him from living a full life with his devoted wife Betsy by his side. Together with Betsy, Tony spent many winters enjoying life in Florida. He frequently traveled to visit his dear grandchildren in Minnesota and New Jersey and took many vacations with his family.
In retirement Tony self-published several mystery novels and negotiations books, an endeavor that spoke to his interest in writing. He maintained a travel and lifestyle blog for Boomers. Tony amazed his family with his Jeopardy! prowess, historical knowledge and ability to stay up-to-date on the news and culture.
Above all, Tony always made time for his family, whom he loved with his whole heart. He was a compassionate listener with a calming presence to his loved ones. Tony leaves a legacy of his family of which he was proud. In addition to his wife, children, daughter-in-law, son-in-law and grandchildren, he is survived by his brother Larry Basinski of Lawrenceville. Brother-in-law Dave (Kathleen) Fawcett of Oakmont. Sister-in-law Emily Fawcett of Glenwood Springs, Colo. and many nieces and nephews.
Tony was predeceased by his in-laws Janet and Dave Fawcett of Glenshaw, Pa. and his brother-in-law, Dan Fawcett of Santa Monica, Calif.
Friends and family received on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray (724-941-3211). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Resurrection Parish, St. John Capistran Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. (everyone please meet at the church). Interment will be private.
