Anthony "Tony" Butzek

Born at home on the farm in Southern Illinois on May 27, 1939, and passed peacefully and unexpectedly in his sleep at home in Holmes Beach, Florida on February 9, 2026. Formerly of Darien, Illinois. Beloved son of the late Anthony and Stella Butzek. Most wonderful and much-loved husband of Marianne (Mirtich) for 54 years, devoted father of Karen Conneely (Barry Hall) and Anthony (Heather) Buczek. Awesome to and truly adored by grandchildren Sylvi, Alton, and Mila. Dear brother of Dixie (George, deceased) Martin.

Tony led an incredible life, and will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and openness to new adventures. He spent his childhood in Southern Illinois before his family moved to Chicago at the age of 12. A lifelong Cardinals fan, he was also a good sport about rooting for the Cubs when they needed a win. He studied accounting in college and enjoyed an exciting career as a special agent in the U.S. Treasury. In the 1960s he discovered skiing, tennis, and Mexican food - passions that he went on to share with his family. Later on, he discovered the beauty of the Florida Gulf Coast on a business trip, which led to a number of memorable family vacations and his and Marianne's eventual retirement in the area. He spent his final years relaxing in a tropical paradise, where he enjoyed golfing and was always in the middle of a book. He was adored by his family and friends, and his memory will live on in all of us.

How will we ever continue without you, dear Tony? Life with you was incredibly great and, without you, will never be the same. God bless you and keep you dear Tony. Until we meet again, all of our love and gratitude for sharing your wonderful life with us.

A family celebration of Tony's life will take place in Illinois at a later date.
